BIOGRAPHY
Cathal Ó Cuaig is an experienced television producer and director with over 25 years in the Irish audio-visual sector. He holds a first-class honours MA in Modern Languages and History from the National University of Ireland, Galway (2007). Starting in local radio, he swiftly progressed to spend a decade at national radio station RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta before transitioning to television in 2007. Since then, Cathal has been instrumental in creating compelling TV documentaries for TG4 and RTÉ, as well as contributing journalistic pieces to digital platforms like Molscéal and Tuairisc.ie. He is dedicated to authentically capturing Ireland's culture and history, resonating worldwide through thought-provoking documentaries.
Cathal collaborates with esteemed production companies in a freelance directorial role and operates his own production company, Rúnda Productions. He has participated in prestigious training programs like Docs in Thessaloniki Programme (2017), IDFAcademy (2016), Berlinale Talent Campus (2012), Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (2010), and Archidoc by La Fémis. His film "Farewell to Music" received the Celtic Media Award for Best Arts Documentary in 2020 and the European Prix CIRCOM in 2020 for Music and Arts. Additionally, "Viva Mary" was screened at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2023, showcasing his ongoing commitment to visual storytelling.
